We love this a lot!
We love this a lot!
From the Word Magazine’s blog a great and nostalgic read through things you won’t ever do again because life has moved on.
Favourites from the opening posts are Using a rotary telephone dial, hearing the needle dropped into the groove of the LP. lowering a car window by winding a handle rather than pressing a button, finding out the time of my favourite programme and setting the VHS to record it and hearing the sound of a modem, connecting to the internet.

Twenty five years at the top, constantly innovating, constantly creative, often controversial Madonna’s rise and continued dominance is well documented. What can be learned about that staying power from what she says?
“A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.”
Does this one take much explaining? Who are you not to say what you want? But like Madonna says if you don’t tell people what you want it’s highly unlikely you’ll be mystically gifted with it. We’re all allowed needs, dreams, hopes and ambitions and when they’re out in the open they’re much more likely to happen. When you verbalise what you’re after it becomes more real. Not only will you be talking to people who can help you get what you want but you’ll also be personally more compelled to make it happen too because you don’t want to let yourself down in public.
We promised five minutes spent at yallhappy.com would make you happy, well this probably only works if you were around in the 80s but it’s extremely funny!
It’s a purely personal collection but listening to there three songs ALWAYS lifts the spirits.
3. Simon Webbe – No Worries: The lyrics in this are so uplifting. Potentially even better is the version of the song sung by its writer Tim Daniels
2. The Monkees – Daydream Beleiver: what can be said about this? A classic and one you just have to sing along too (youtube doesn’t have the video on it)
1. Eminem – Lose Yourself: For all of him image as a posturing, arrogant, violent potty mouth, this track is full of intelligent lyrics and good advice (again no youtube video)
